Hog roast FAQs: What do you need to know about booking a hog roast?

Hog Roast Event Packages - Northern Hog and Roast

If you’re thinking about booking a hog roast for your next event, there are a whole host of factors to consider. From the size of the guest list, to setup and serving, there are often a number of questions that event hosts may have. So what do you need to know about booking a hog roast? And what are the most frequently asked questions?

What should you ask about before booking?

A hog roast isn’t something you book every day, so you will likely have some questions. If you’re concerned about choosing the right company, and the right options for your guests, here are some useful suggestions to get you started:

  • Is the meat locally sourced?
  • Do you offer side dishes or just the roast?
  • Do you cater for vegetarians or other dietary needs?
  • Do you provide staff, serving equipment, and cleaning up?
  • What happens if it rains?
  • How long do you need to set up and cook?
  • Is there a minimum or maximum number of guests you cater for?

We are happy to walk you through all of this and tailor the experience to suit your event, here at Northern Hog & Roast.

So what do you need to know about booking a hog roast?

Some of the most frequently asked questions that we answer here at Northern Hog & Roast, include:

How many people does a hog roast feed?

While this is one of the most commonly asked questions, it’s often impossible to give a blanket answer. Simply put, this depends on the size of the hog, and of course, how hungry your guests are. However, we can give you a rough guide:

A standard full hog can feed around 100–120 people in a roll or buffet-style setting.

If you’re feeding fewer people (say, 50–70), we can supply a smaller pig or offer a different catering option like roast joints.

What’s included in a typical hog roast package?

Here at Northern Hog & Roast, we offer a range of different packages depending on your needs and requirements.

Our Standard Hog Roast Package includes a slow-roasted hog, infused with the rich flavours of sage and onion stuffing, along with our signature apple sauce that brings a sweet and tangy twist. We also provide locally sourced bread buns.

Our Premium Hog Roast Package includes a traditional hog slow roasted to perfection, as well as a range of sides and pairings. From halloumi skewers and vegan Jackfruit options, to four different salad options, and crispy cajun wedges, this package delivers delicious tastes for every guest.

With each package, we also offer disposable plates, napkins, and cutlery, as well as set-up and clean-up.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

A full hog usually takes 6–8 hours to roast, depending on its size. That means we often start early in the morning to ensure we are ready for your event in plenty of time.

What do I need to provide?

Generally, very little. Our hog roast team are fully self-sufficient. We bring all the equipment we need, including the roasting machine, gas, and serving tables. All you really need to provide is:

  • A flat outdoor space for the setup (driveway, garden, or field)
  • Access to the site (including parking)
  • A bit of time for set-up and clean-down

If you’re hosting indoors or have specific restrictions, just let us know. We’re used to working in all sorts of venues and will find a solution.
